Here’s a “threefer.”
The dictator of Libya, Mohammar Gadhafi (its interesting how the spelling has changed over the years. Celebs in the US would be proud.) confesses to killing over 200 innocents in the PAN AM bombing and decides to give up what was probably a failing and ultimately expensive and troublesome nuclear weapons program, and Tony Blair just about pulls a hamstring trying to get to a microphone to announce that Gadhafi is now an ally in the “war on terror.” Nothing like having the fox in the henhouse.
PS: Royal Dutch Shell (which sucked up BP) announced it got a billion dollar contract to prospect for natural gas in Libya. Gosh, it’s great to see our leaders operating on principle. Just amazing.
The US insists that it is going to leave Iraq on June 30, but not. Given the fact that Iraq is quickly headed for civil war and given that Iraq is now the happy hunting ground for every Saudi, Yemeni, and Chechan terrorist mercenary looking to for a test bed for roadside bombs, car bombs and suicide bombing strategies, the administration insists that the Iraqi puppet government will be ready to take control—so we’re outta there. But not so fast, we are leaving on June 30, mind you, but not since “US officials say they believe they have found a legal basis for US troops to continue their military control over Iraq.” (NY Times—Josh Burns and Thom Shanker). That’s amazing.
Our President apparently finds it funny that the pretense for the US expending the lives of over 500 of our service men and women, along with the physical and psychological injury of well over 3,000 more; the lives of countless innocent Iraqis who constitute “collateral damage” should be noted too, not to mention the hundreds of billions of dollars expended on blowing up an entire nation doesn’t exist. The WMD that were only 45 minutes from use don’t exist, so that’s makes for a hellava joke! What’s even more pathetic is that the lapdog press laughed heartily at his comic antics. Any more, I’m not so amazed by that. Brit Hume not withstanding.
